ABSTRACT

Immunization is an effort in providing body immune to infants and younglings by inserting vaccines into the bodies. Injection immunization could cause trauma for its pain. There are some non-pharmacology pain managements such as breast feeding and distraction of audio toys. This research aimed to find out the difference in pain scale of the infants that received immunization after breast feeding and distraction of audio toys. Pre-experimental with posttest only design was used in this research design, with the sample was infants that received injection immunization aged 3 - 6 months, total 28 respondents which were classified into two research groups. The first group was given treatment of breast feeding intervention whereas the second one was given treatment of audio toys distraction intervention. The interventions were given two minutes before immunization. FLACC (Face, Leg, Activity, Cry and Consolability) behavior scale was used to measure the pain scale. The difference of pain scale from both groups was analyzed by using Independent Sample Test. The finding of the research showed that there was significant difference in pain scale of the infants that received immunization between the breast fed group and the distraction of audio toys group with p value = 0.000, where the mean of pain response in the breast fed group was lower than the distraction of audio toys group. Breast feeding and distraction of audio toys could be applied in the management of infants’ pain during immunization by involving parents’role.
